In life, it is said that our actions slip by without us even knowing it. At times it even seems that we have little knowledge of our actions, as life is full with factors and different elements. This point of view takes on the ideas that free will may be an illusion. â€Å"Free will may be defined as the capacity to exert the â€Å"power† which allows one to act freely (Wall 2013: 268); this is one of the many definitions of free will. Therefore, it would bring up the question of whether there is an actual general definition of what free will means. By looking at the different perspectives, it clearly shows that there are two points of views that from the opposite side of the spectrum. Question: What is The Doctrine of Trinity? Answer: Introduction The Christianity is an Abrahamic and monotheistic religion based on Yeshua a Jewish preachers life and teachings. Jesus Christ is the common name for Yeshua. The Doctrine of Trinity is Christian faiths most debated mystery. According to the Doctrine of Trinity God are three divine persons. These three persons are God the Son, God the Father, and God the Holy Spirit. These three persons have the different and unique identity but, they co-exist in unity, and taken as co-equal, consubstantial and co-eternal. [1] Trinity is believed by most of the Christians but still they have differences in understanding it. The Trinity is not just a religious tradition but, Bible also has it in its teachings, as according to the supporters of the Trinity. What is The Doctrine of Trinity? The Trinity is known as the fundamental doctrine of Christianity or Christians are those who accept Christ as God as according to the Greek Orthodox Church. About fifteen centuries ago the Doctrine of Trinity was initiated into Christianity, and no questions were asked about its authenticity by the Christians believers. As it was taught in most of the churches, it was assumed that it must be true. Also, people believe that it is wrong to raise a question regarding the Doctrines like this. But, when it comes to defending it, many Christians those who accept it, and understand the Doctrine of Trinity cannot stand the challenge. Even when they are asked, they just say it is difficult to explain the Doctrine of Trinity.[2] They say it just like water which can be seen as ice, liquid, and steam, in the same way, God is also one but shows itself in three different ways. The three distinct personalities of God who are in complete unity of purpose and love. Christianity was created out of Judaism; about 2000 years ago it got started with a purely monotheistic theology. During the first two centuries, Christianity preserved its native and beautiful simplicity and was perceive in few articles. However, after the third-century, pagan religious theologies started sneaking in Christianity and just in few decades the Christianity was influenced by many self-fabricated theologies, which includes the doctrine of the Trinity also.[3] Since the origin of the Doctrine of Trinity, a continuous debate has been going on in between the opponents and supporters of the Doctrine of Trinity and its authenticity. The Trinitarians argue that the doctrine is actually taken from the references that are mentioned in the Holy Bible, about the nature of God of Son that is Jesus Christ, God of Father, and the Holy Spirit. On the other hand, the critics or the non-Trinitarians reject the authenticity of the Doctrine of Trinity on the point that the doctrine is not based on the Jesus Christs, the earlier Christians scholars, or the Apostles of Jesus Christs original, moreover, it was developed later by the theologians and religious scholars.[4] The non-believers or critics have altogether denied the existence of the Doctrine of Trinity, they say that the Doctrine of Trinity is false and fabricated by man, for them God stands alone as a separate, powerful, and eternal being. For them, Jesus Christ is just like an angel, a unique, spirited person who was created by God to be at his place when God was not there for a time being. For them Jesus Christ was never a God Almighty, he was always just been and still is subject to God. The researchers state that the main factor that formulated the Doctrine of Trinity into a fundamental Christianity belief was its connection with the paganism. Since the times of Babylon, pagans use to worship triad gods. And this practice of worshiping three gods has been popular before, during and even after Jesus Christ, like in Egypt (Horus, Isis, Osiris), Babylon (Ishtar, Shamash, Sin), and India (Siva, Vishnu, Brahma). When Christianity took its spread during the first two centuries CE, many pagans of the Mediterranean basin converted themselves to Christianity. Along with pagans came the centuries old socio-cultural religious beliefs and traditions. [5] After the demise of the Apostles, beliefs of pagan started creeping in Christianity. The basic thought is that Christianity dominated the Paganism but actually Christianity adapted Paganism. The Christians worship on Sunday, which was adapted by pagan only as the Jews use to worship on Saturday. The Trinitarians or the supporters of the Doctrine of Trinity, justify the Doctrine by few verses given in the Holy Bible. When Jesus Christ got baptized, and went up out of the water, at that very moment heaven was opened, and a dove who was a spirit of God descended and landed on him. A voice came from heaven said, This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. [6] The angel answered, The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the higest will overshadow you, and for that reason the holy Child shall be called the Son of God." The Trinitarians interpreted and used these verses to support the doctrine of Trinity. As these verses talk about the distinct entities in a single narrative mentioned by name. According to their argument even though the New Testament of Holy Bible has no reference to Trinity and it does not teach it even, but still provides material that could be referenced to the Doctrine of Trinity. The Old Testament also indicates the Trinity, through the reference to Gods word, his Wisdom, and Spirit; also, narratives like the appearances of the three men to Abraham, all these points are taken by Trinitarians for supporting the Trinity.[7] Non-Trinitarians have no belief on the Doctrine of Trinity, or the description of God given in the Trinity and its relation to the Holy Spirit and the Jesus Christ. They reject the Doctrine of Trinity as they say that the expression "God the Son, "God the Father", and "God the Holy Spirit" were not advocated or even known by the Jesus Christ or the early Christians. They believed in One Omnipotent, Omniscient, Transcendent Creator, and Omnificent worshiped alone. In the previous paragraphs, the Doctrine of Trinity was explored from different researchers' point of view. The studies confirm that the Doctrine of Trinity was not the part of Jesus Christs teachings. Slowly and steadily it evolved and formulated as a part of Christianity after three hundred years the Christ resurrected. [8] Conclusion The Doctrine of Trinity is taken as the cornerstone of Christianity from the last fifteen century. Though most of the Christians has a belief on the Doctrine of Trinity but still they do not fully understand its complicity and if challenged would be unable to defend it. Through various studies, the conclusion that came on the Doctrine of Trinity is that in the last quarter of the fourth century the Doctrine of Trinity was formulated by the Christian scholars. This was done at the council Nicaea and after that at the council Constantinople. It was formulated under the influence of the theologians and the Roman ruling class who were paganism inspired and wanted to serve their vested interests. [9] Now in the present times, with the development of science, many religious beliefs that were based on fictitious man-made ideologies were proven falsified. Group Pressure Essay Groups influence the behavior of their members, often promoting conformity. The tendency to match one’s behavior to that of others is called conformity. Some amount of group conformity provides a secure feeling of belonging; group pressure, however, can be considerable and sometimes unpleasant. Even groups of strangers can foster conformity, as a classic experiment by Solomon Asch (1952) showed. This empirical study is a classic investigation that revealed the power of group conformity. It’s always been known that our social world not only involves making attributions, it also involves our tendency to conform to or not to conform to the attitudes and behaviors of others. The story of Okiki is one of the reasons why further study is needed in this field. She’s a thirteen-year-old honors student at a Lorain, Ohio, middle school. She sat in class, her arms and legs shaking nervously. In her book bag she had a twelve-inch kitchen knife. Her plan was to wait for the bell to ring and then rush to the front of the classroom and, with the help of another student, stab her teacher to death. Why?  To settle a grudge against the teacher and to show her classmates (at least a dozen of whom placed bets as to whether or not she would â€Å"chicken out†) that she was worthy of their respect. Hearing about the plot, an assistant principal broke up the plan only minutes before it was to be carried out (Gregory, 1993). The fact that young teens are anxious about fitting in surprise no one, although many people might be amazed at the lengths some will go to gain acceptance. Sociologists have confirmed the power of group pressure to shape human behavior and found that it remains strong in adulthood as well as in adolescence. The controlled experiment allows the researcher to manipulate an independent. The experimenter forms an experimental group, which will experience a change in the independent variable (the â€Å"treatment†), and a control group, which will not experience the treatment but whose behavior will be compared with that of the experimental group. It is important to take note that the control group is similar to the experimental group in every other way. ) This type of experiment is especially characteristic of studies at the micro level of sociological research. Participants The participants are college students recruited by the researcher. Asch`s control participants/group consisted of subjects who looked at the lines in a room where they were seated together but were allowed to make their judgments independently. In this group the subjects invariably matched the correct lines, just as you no doubt have. But in the experimental group a different result was produced by the introduction of an independent variable: group pressure. Procedure Solomon Asch (1952) conducted a classic investigation that revealed the power of group conformity. He formed groups of six to eight people, allegedly to study visual perception. His technique required the use of confederates, all of whom stated an obviously incorrect judgment prior to the turn of the individual whose behavior was being investigated. He arranged with all but one member of the group to create a situation in which the remaining subject would be pressured to accept conclusions that were quite unreasonable. Asch asked group members, one at a time, to match a â€Å"standard† line on â€Å"Card 1,† to one of three lines on â€Å"Card. † Anyone with normal vision could see that the line marked â€Å"A† on â€Å"Card 2† was the correct choice. Initially, everyone gave correct answers. Then, Asch`s secret accomplices began responding incorrectly, making the naive subject bewildered and uncomfortable. Results and Conclusions So what happened? Asch found that more than one-third of subjects placed in this awkward situation chose to conform to the others by answering incorrectly or they went along with the incorrect group judgment. His study suggests that many of us are apparently willing to compromise our own judgment to avoid the discomfort of being different from others, even from people we do not know. The independent variable in the study was group pressure. Asch varied the degree of group pressure experienced by the subject. The independent variable (group pressure) thus produced more â€Å"errors,† or choices (dependent variable) of the wrong line (Asch, 1966). Methodological or ethical flaws Yes, an ethical flaw in the study is evident. In Asch experiment, the subject is duped and may feel embarrassed. Since this is a sociological research, it deals with the personal lives and inner thoughts of real human beings. Although this research seems relatively innocent, there are many times when the question asked or the behaviors witnessed may be embarrassing or even more damaging. Moreover, the study did not mention informed consent. So, the researcher did not take precautions to protect the fundamental rights of human subjects. More or less, the study has good internal validity as it clearly measures what it intends to measure. Moreover, external events and contamination may cause causal conclusions of the study to be invalid. For example, when the experimental group was interviewed, something might happen which is unrelated to the result or something in their surrounding might influence the subjects in answering the questions and thus might affect the result of the survey. On the other hand, external validity is not measured in the study. Alternative Explanation An alternative explanation for the results found in this research, not related to the effects of an independent variable is the foot-in-the-door technique (Dillard, 2001). This technique can produce extraordinary degrees of compliance. Here, the experimental group will conform to the confederates not by group pressure but by voluntarily conforming to the incorrect response. This is best explained by self-perception theory, which assumes that we infer our attitudes from observing our own behavior, and provides an answer. Here, if someone freely comply with a small, worthwhile requests, the person will somehow his self as someone who has positive attitude toward worthwhile requests. As one wish to be consistent with his self-perception, he may be more likely to comply with other requests. But supporters of this alternative explanation have been mixed (Dillard, 2001). One variations of the Asch experiment suggest that the social impact of the group varies as a function of its size, the degree of unanimity in the group, and the degree to which one’s nonconforming behavior can be hidden from scrutiny. People evaluate their opinions and behavior against the standards of a reference group. If they find major differences, they feel pressure to conform – or to change reference groups.

They see the fun-filled trip slipping away as soon as it had come, and nobody in the household is content. But, by morning, Colton is up and feeling well again; the Burpo’s then set out on their adventure. He leaves feeling triumphant as they leave. After swimming, the Burpos head to the Old Chicago Restraunt in Greeley to eat with Pastor Steve Wilson and his wife. While sitting around the large, round booth, they talk about their churches and enjoy Italian food. Todd and Sonja decide to visit Pastor Wilson’s church the next day, as Rebecca Wilson divides her time between the conversation and coloring with the kids. Then the worst thing yet happened, the shadow of death. Todd sees it on Colton, and afterwards they decide to take Colton to the Great Plains Regional Medical Center. Calling ahead to let the doctor know, they set out towards the center. Todd and Sonja blame each other throughout the whole trip, but when they reach the center and the doctor has gone to lunch, they’re out of people and reasons to blame. Fifteen minutes later, the doctor comes in and looks over Colton. They perform a CT scan, and send the Burpos into a secluded waiting room. â€Å"I think this is it,† are the only words Sonja can muster out as she cradles Colton’s limp body. Five tiresomely long minutes later, a Radioligist comes out to let them know Colton has a ruptured appendix and needs emergency surgery. They wheel Colton away on a gurney, preparing him for his surgery. He thrashes, screaming for his dad, as they put the IV in his arm. Anger flashes in Todd’s eyes, realizing that he may have waited too long and might not see his son alive again. He rages at God, assuming he is going to take his son before he had the time to even live. After the surgery is over, Todd is asked to come back. All the fear and anger leaves his eyes, when he is told that his son is conscious and has been asking for him. Todd and Sonja are amazed at how much better their son feels, looks, and seems. They are told, seven days after checking into the hospital, that they can take their son home. After packing the mulititude of toys and clothes, they go to leave. The elevators are sliding shut, when they are told they cannot leave. New pockets of infection show in Colton’s CT scan, in his abdomen. Sonja, completely exasperated, has a breakdown. The church comes to pray with Colton shortly after, only praying for one simple thing: gas. They are told that if Colton passes gas, that it would be a good sign. Within an hour, the prayer was answered. Colton felt better the next morning, and doctors were shocked at this miracle. After what seemed like forever, Colton and the rest of the Burpo family can finally go home after this horrific event. After they go home, life seems to go back to normal. It wasn’t until four months after Colton’s surgery, on their Fourth of July trip, that they realize their son has witnessed something extraordinary. On their way, Todd jokingly asks Colton if he wants to go back to the hospital. The response he gets is far from what he expects, however. Colton proceeds to tell him that the hospital is where angels sang to him and he sat in Jesus’ lap. Todd and Sonja laugh it off, thinking Colton had imagined the whole thing. They continue to believe so, until he tells them exactly what they were soing, and where, during his surgery. He also offers more information, spread over the next years. Days, weeks, and months all came with new information. â€Å"Did you know that Jesus had a cousin? Jesus told me his cousin baptized him,† Colton informed his father one night. He tells his dad about a horse that he petted, God’s beautiful eyes and clothes, his crown, and God’s â€Å"markers,† nonchalantly one night, as if he were talking about what he ate for lunch. He also says that she didn’t have a name, because they hadn’t named her yet. When Sonja begins to freak out, Colton explains that she’s okay and that God adopted her. Colton also tells about God’s throne room, and makes one point in particular stand out: God loves the children! After Colby is born, they realize they have to hire a babysitter. They decide in a very mature for her age 8th grader, named Ali. All is well, until one night they come home to Ali crying. When Sonja asks her why, she says that Colton was crying and tells her why. Colton, after being put in bed, tells Ali that he misses his sister that died in mommy’s tummy. When he begins to cry, Ali holds him until he finally cries himself to sleep. This isn’t the only serious thing Colton says about Heaven. One night, while at home, he tells his dad that the angels have wings to fight off Satan. He tells him that there is going to be a battle, and that Todd will have to fight in it. He also tells that he sees the power God sends his dad during church, while he preaches. Todd and Sonja now believe Colton more and more by the passing day. 2007 is the first time that the Burpos told about Colton’s indifferent, to say the least, experience. Todd now found himself with more and more questions about Heaven and what his 4 year old saw. One woman, in tears, approaches and asks if Colton might have seen her stillborn baby in Heaven. He asks the woman that if she believes that God loves her as much as God loves him, and if he loves her living son as much as he loves his living son, then why wouldn’t he love her unborn child as much as his? At this moment, he knew that God had sent him the power to help that woman; the same power Colton had claimed to have seen God shoot down. Years have passed since Colton’s accident, but his story is and will be known for many more years to come. The amazing experiences that this family went through are truly touching, and this book portrays that beautifully. From cover to cover, it’s a book you will not want to put down. Add a drop of synthetic anti-B (yellow) to the well labeled B. Replace cap. 3. Add a drop of synthetic anti-Rh serum (clear) to the well labeled Rh. Replace cap. 4. Using the dropper vial, place a drop of Sample 3 (the victim’s blood) in each well of the blood typing slide. DO NOT TOUCH THE WELL! 5. Replace the cap on the dropper vial. 6. Using a different color mixing stick for each well (blue for anti-A, yellow for anti-B & white for anti –Rh), gently stir the synthetic blood and anti-serum drops for 30 seconds.Remember to discard each mixing stick after a single use to avoid cross contamination. 7. WAIT 60 Seconds. 8. Carefully examine the thin films of liquid mixture left behind. If the film remains uniform in appearance, there is no agglultination (no clumps, negative reaction). If the film as clumps, agglutination has occurred (positive reaction) 9. Determine blood type of the sample using the data table below. Answer yes or no as to whether agglutination occurred in each sample. A positive agglutination reaction indicates blood type. 10. Then repeat steps 1-9 for Samples 4 and 5. Record each results on table. 12. Thoroughly rinse the blood typing slides and return all materials.
